Delhi was a major trade round from northwest India to the Gangetic Plains. It is home to several ancient monuments and archeological sites.

For astronomy buffs, there is the Jantar Mantar, an eighteenth century astronomical observatory.

Other sites include the Purana Qila, a 16th century fortress, and the Lotus Temple among other modern temples.

There are memorial houses associated with Mahatma Gandhi and other memorable personalities.

Visitors to Delhi can visit the governmental buildings and official residences typical of British colonial architecture.

Delhi also has a separate Kite Flying Festival, an International Mango Festival and a Spring Festival. Kite flying is popular as it represents a symbol of freedom.

The Republic Day Parade is a big cultural and military parade that both shows India’s cultural diversity and its military might. Religious festivals include the festival of light, known as the Diwali, Guru Nanak’s Birthday and numerous other religious festivals.

One notable festival is the Qutub Festival-a cultural event that showcases musicians and dancers from all over India with the Qutub Minar as the backdrop of the event.
