Holidays and Events

Visitors to Delhi can partake in many of the national events and holidays, many of which are found in New Delhi nearby.
There are national events such as Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi’s birthday.

Gandhi’s Independence Day is August 15th, and the Prime Minister of India addresses the nation from the Red Fort.

Delhi also has a separate Kite Flying Festival, an International Mango Festival and a Spring Festival. Kite flying is popular as it represents a symbol of freedom.

The Republic Day Parade is a big cultural and military parade that both shows India’s cultural diversity and its military might. Religious festivals include the festival of light, known as the Diwali, Guru Nanak’s Birthday and numerous other religious festivals.

One notable festival is the Qutub Festival-a cultural event that showcases musicians and dancers from all over India with the Qutub Minar as the backdrop of the event.
